Lunar New Year Festival, Fire Crackers and Fido

Don’t forget celebrations are rapidly upon us for the Lunar New Year. In the Richmond area this will run from 11am to 10pm with fire crackers all day.

A lot of dogs, especially large ones, get very nervous on hearing fireworks of any kind. This often triggers a panic response with an irrational urge to escape.

Dogs have been known to jump through partially open windows, squeeze through small spaces in fences, or destroy items in the house in their panic. They can end up lost and sometimes sustain broken bones during the escape.

The RSPCA and other dog rescue shelters experience a spike in stray dogs around these times. Here are some tips for keeping your dog safe, whether you are at home or attending the celebrations.
